Courses - Boating

Spring 2009: Tuesday, January 5, 2010.

Course Time: Tuesday nights - 1900hrs - 2200hrs
(7:00PM-10:00PM)
Course Duration: 13 weeks
Course Fee:

$275 per person. *Cost includes CPS Membership for 1 year.
$450 per couple. *Cost includes CPS Family Membership for 1 year.

Course Description

Prerequisite: None. Open to the general public.

The Boating Course is the first in a series of courses to help you become a better and safer boater. You will learn the basics of safe boating including what equipment is mandatory on a boat, how to read a compass, common knots used, docking and undocking procedures, right of way and collision regulations, emergency procedures, how to anchor your boat, and how to read a chart and plot a course.

There are two exams included at the end of this course. Both are multiple choice and "closed book".

  1. The exam for the Canada Coast Guard Pleasure Craft Operator's Card (PCOC). Thirty questions and approximately 1/2 hour to complete.
  2. The CPS Boating Exam. One hundred questions and approximately 3 hours to complete.

Upon successful completion of the above two exams, you will be eligible to apply for membership in CPS.
